FAST Logistics Group, the Philippines’ leading end-to-end logistics provider, emphasized the critical need for greater visibility in transport logistics to enhance both efficiency and sustainability.
During a panel discussion on the opening day of the PASIAWorld 2025 Conference, held Thursday, November 13 at the Manila Marriott Hotel, FAST Chief Information Officer Leo Sacamos Jr. highlighted how technology — particularly artificial intelligence — enables logistics providers to maximize truck utilization and identify optimal routes.
The session, moderated by FarEye Co-Founder and COO Gautam Kumar, included AC Logistics CIO Christian Dy as a co-panelist. The panel was one of the key events at the conference, which brought together industry leaders to discuss innovations and best practices in procurement and supply chain management, covering topics such as AI adoption, sustainability, and risk management.

Visibility as the Foundation of Sustainable Logistics
Leo shared that logistics providers must be equipped with systems that offer real-time visibility of their entire transport network, such as the Transport Management System. With greater visibility, companies can reduce empty miles, maximize truck utilization, and make smarter fleet deployment decisions.
“For logistics, visibility is everything,” he said. “If you can see where every truck is, how full it is, and what routes are available, then you can make decisions that reduce costs and reduce carbon emissions.”
He added that improved visibility directly supports sustainability goals. By ensuring that more cargo is consolidated per trip, companies reduce the number of trucks on the road, contributing to fewer emissions and less traffic congestion.
The business landscape is increasingly prioritizing sustainability, driven by consumer demand for lower carbon footprints and renewable energy solutions. Companies across industries, including logistics leaders like FAST, are implementing green initiatives such as electric vehicles and solar-powered facilities to reduce their environmental impact while maintaining high service standards.
Reducing Carbon Emissions Through Efficiency
One of the major shifts in the industry, Leo explained, is the movement from manual monitoring to automated systems powered by AI. In the past, teams manually calculated truck utilization, routing, and loading patterns — an approach that often took days to complete and is prone to errors.
“AI today can do in minutes what used to take us days,” he said. “If you used to fill up spreadsheets and calculate route efficiency manually, AI now does that work instantly and with far greater accuracy.”
Leo noted that transport and logistics are major contributors to carbon emissions globally. While electric trucks are part of the solution, better planning and utilization through AI-powered tools can achieve a significant impact even with traditional vehicles with combustion engines.
As Leo emphasized, the effectiveness of these tools depends on the quality and accuracy of the data fed into them.

“The foundation of AI is data,” he noted. “AI will only work if we give it the right information — clean, consistent, real-time data. Without that, even the most advanced system won’t give reliable results.”
At the same time, he highlighted the importance of guiding employees through the transition to AI-driven logistics systems. Successful AI adoption, Leo said, depends not only on the right technology but also on the mindset and skills of the workforce.
It is particularly important in the Philippines, where archipelagic geography and urban congestion complicate logistics operations.
FAST Logistics Group has launched its ESG strategy and made a Net Zero commitment, reinforcing its dedication to sustainable and responsible logistics practices. FAST is the only domestic end-to-end logistics provider to join the Net Zero Carbon Alliance, the Philippines’ largest multi-sectoral alliance promoting net zero emissions and climate action across industries.
