From a small family rice business founded in 1987 to a growing presence in modern trade, Golden Grains continues to build its brand around quality, consumer insight, and reliable partnerships.
Trust and reliability are essential when growing a family business — especially one that feeds Filipino households every day.
As companies expand beyond their markets, finding the right partners for modern trade distribution in the Philippines becomes both a challenge and an opportunity. The risks are real, but when the partnership is right, it allows businesses to scale sustainably while staying true to their values.
This has been the journey of the Go family of R.E.J. Commercial Corporation, the family-led business behind Golden Grains, a growing Philippine rice brand with a presence in retail stores, shopping malls, and modern trade channels across the country.
Building a Retail-Ready Rice Brand Through Quality and Consistency
R.E.J. Commercial Corporation traces its roots back to 1987, when family patriarch Marciano Go and matriarch Linda Go started a small rice store selling rice by the kilo. Over the years, the business evolved — and with it came a deeper understanding of the Filipino consumer.
The Go family launched Golden Grains in response to changing Filipino lifestyles and a growing demand for high-quality rice in more convenient pack sizes. As more households moved toward condominium living and modern retail, the family saw an opportunity to bring the quality and expertise they had developed through the rice trade into a more accessible consumer brand.
From this insight, Golden Grains grew into one of the pioneers of the rice repacking business, offering rice in 2kg, 5kg, 10kg, 25kg, and 50kg packs that suited both households and institutional buyers.
Today, Golden Grains is known for topnotch quality. It remains a growing presence in malls and major retailers nationwide.
Golden Grains offers a broad portfolio designed around the different tastes, lifestyles, and dining occasions of Filipino consumers. Its range includes local favorites such as Super Angelica and Maharlika, aromatic varieties such as Dinurado and Thai Jasmine, as well as Whole Grain White Rice. Golden Grains also has healthier alternatives, namely, Organic Brown, Organic Black, and Organic Red Rice.

Topnotch Product Designed for Filipino Preferences
Golden Grains’ proposition is grounded in a simple promise: “Naturally Fluffy. Perfectly Delicious.” Behind that promise is a focus on premium quality, natural aroma, and consistent cooking performance qualities that matter to consumers and to the retail partners who carry the brand.
“Our focus has always been quality,” says Jeffrey Go, co-owner of R.E.J. Commercial Corporation. “That’s why modern trade partners trust Golden Grains. They know they’re receiving rice that meets their standards and their customers’ expectations.”
Robert Go, co-owner, emphasizes that innovation and a close pulse on shifting consumer preferences have always been central to Golden Grains’ growth and modern trade distribution in the Philippines.
“For Golden Grains, sustained growth has never been just about selling rice. It has been about introducing new product variants based on consumer preferences, and ensuring the brand remains relevant to every generation of Filipino households,” he says.
Supporting Filipino Farmers and Local Livelihoods
For Golden Grains, growth also means strengthening the supply chain behind every pack. Ninety-five percent of its rice supply is sourced from farmers’ cooperatives, helping support the livelihoods of thousands of Filipino farmers
This connection between producers, Golden Grains, and consumers is central to the company’s long-term view of the business.
As Golden Grains expanded, the Go family initially relied on its own fleet of trucks to transport rice from their warehouse in Parañaque to retail partners. But managing trucks, drivers, fuel, and maintenance proved challenging — especially as deliveries extended beyond Luzon.

Finding a Growth Partner for Modern Trade Distribution
Golden Grains had already built the brand. The next challenge was building the infrastructure to support its growth.
As Golden Grains expanded beyond Luzon, the complexity of moving rice across the country increased. What had once been managed through the family’s own fleet evolved into a more demanding network involving sea freight, RoRo, port handling, last-mile delivery, and returns management.
Expansion into the Visayas and Mindanao thus required more than simply adding new delivery routes. It required a logistics partner capable of supporting a growing modern trade distribution in the Philippines.
Golden Grains initially tapped FAST Logistics Group to support its Davao and Cagayan shipping requirements, moving rice via sea freight. FAST’s performance — combined with a strong working relationship — quickly proved valuable.
What began as support for specific shipping requirements gradually developed into a broader partnership as Golden Grains continued to expand its distribution footprint.
Rice, unlike other commodities, cannot be stored for extended periods inside shipping containers. Extended storage inside shipping containers can expose the product to moisture buildup, potentially affecting quality and increasing food waste. FAST works with Golden Grains to coordinate container availability and sailing schedules so that shipments move efficiently and arrive at their destinations in the condition expected by both the brand and its retail partners.
Reliable Modern Trade Distribution Support
FAST also manages last-mile delivery from the ports of Davao and Cagayan de Oro to Golden Grains’ modern trade partners. In addition, FAST supports return logistics for Golden Grains’ customers, which is critical as modern trade partners have strict quality standards and may reject goods that do not meet requirements.
Modern trade distribution refers to the end-to-end planning, storage, and transportation of products to organized retail formats such as supermarkets and convenience store chains. For food and beverage companies, modern trade logistics is one of the primary drivers of growth.
Because of FAST’s reliability, transparency, and hands-on account management, Golden Grains gradually expanded the partnership to cover more lanes and services.
From two TEUs every week, Golden Grains plans to scale up with FAST to 10 TEUs monthly. The partnership has also been expanding to support shipments in the Visayas, including Cebu, Bacolod, and Tacloban, as well as Luzon.
“Earning customer trust and helping them expand market reach through end-to-end logistics solutions are deeply fulfilling,” says Sharon Quiatchon, FAST Business Development Manager. “When there’s transparency and mutual understanding, partnerships grow stronger. We value working with business owners like R.E.J. Commercial Corporation who see supply chain as a critical component of their business.”
Golden Grains has built a growing presence across modern trade, supplying malls and major retail partners nationwide. Serving modern trade also requires a high level of consistency and fulfillment discipline. Deliveries must align with selling schedules, product specifications, receiving requirements, and strict quality standards, making reliable logistics an important part of the brand’s ability to serve its customers.
As the business continues to grow, logistics challenges are expected to become more complex. Managing trucks, drivers, helpers, maintenance, and scheduling demands significant time and resources — pulling focus away from Golden Grains’ core expertise: delivering quality rice. Outsourcing logistics to a 3PL or 4PL like FAST allows the company to avoid unnecessary costs and focus on growth.
Dedicated Account Management and Shared Values
One of FAST’s key advantages in modern trade distribution, according to Jeffrey, is its dedicated account management. Having a single point of contact ensures fast issue resolution, alignment with selling schedules, and readiness for expansion.
FAST recognizes the importance of precision and commitment in servicing food companies like Golden Grains, while also supporting the livelihoods of local farmers. Ensuring that essential products like rice move efficiently across the country is a vital responsibility — especially in an archipelago like the Philippines.
“Supporting food businesses is a responsibility we take seriously at FAST. Our commitment is to ensure that essential products like rice move efficiently and safely across the country,” says Amz Ortiz, FAST Senior Manager for MSME Support and Solutions.

With partners such as FAST supporting the movement of products across increasingly complex routes, Golden Grains is building the infrastructure needed for its next stage of growth: bringing quality rice to more Filipino families, supporting the farmers behind the supply chain, and strengthening its presence as a trusted Philippine rice brand.
With over 50 years of industry leadership, FAST Logistics Group has extensive experience supporting food and beverage companies, with specialized logistics expertise to help businesses move their products safely, efficiently, and reliably across the Philippines.
