Supply Chain Professionals Visit FAST ColdChain Hub Cavite to Learn About Intelligent Cold Storage Solutions

Company executives and supply chain professionals from various organizations dealing with the business of fresh recently visited FAST ColdChain Hub Cavite where they deepened their understanding of intelligent ColdChain Solutions designed to ensure the safety and quality of temperature-sensitive goods.

The facility tour on Friday, July 26, was the highlight of the Fresh by FAST Solutions Roadshow aimed at showcasing the company’s extensive ColdChain capabilities and innovative solutions that enhance supply chain efficiency, ultimately benefiting both businesses and consumers.

The participants from a mix of food and pharmaceutical companies visited the specialized rooms where frozen meat, dairy products, food packages, and other temperature-sensitive products are stored.

FAST ColdChain Solutions Head Marc Dizon led the tour where he emphasized the features of the ColdChain Hub Cavite. Each room was equipped with refrigeration systems and temperature sensors to maintain the necessary conditions for the quality and safety of the stored products. The temperatures are being monitored real-time in a control center inside the facility.

Marc also noted that FAST offers plug-and-play ColdChain solutions for customers requiring temperature control. “Meaning, they just have to bring in their products and we take care of them from the warehousing, inventory management, dispatch operations, even to include refrigerated transport to their customers,” he said.

Before entering the facility, participants adhered to essential protocols, including handwashing and wearing hairnets and jackets. Following these measures, they proceeded to the various rooms, which housed dairy products, frozen meats, and the dry goods of their client, Pandamart.

Leveraging Technology in ColdChain Logistics

Managing the FAST ColdChain Hub Cavite, which accommodates 26 customers and 13,000 pallet positions, requires only 50 personnel because the company utilizes a Warehouse Management System. This suite of software solutions streamlines and automates operations, enhances inventory accuracy, and optimizes storage space, allowing for efficient management of resources and improved customer service.

“The Warehouse Management System simplifies whatever we need to do on a day-to-day basis. This includes cycle counts, quality audits, store location audits, and even stock allocation for dispatch,” Marc said. “The Warehouse Management System also monitors the expiration dates of products, so we won’t have any issue with First In, First Out concerns of customers.”

Moreover, FAST leverages a Transport Management System developed by its Solutions Engineers for real-time visibility and route optimization of its fleet. With TMS, FAST enhances its transport operations and reduces delivery times which improves overall service quality and customer satisfaction.

Marc revealed that FAST was able to locate its trucks in Quezon City, even amid the flooding caused by Super Typhoon Carina because of TMS. “We efficiently monitored the five trucks dispatched to Quezon City that faced difficulties. We knew where the guys were, and were telling them where not to pass because of the flooded areas,” he said.

FAST ColdChain Hub Cavite is also operating at multiple temperatures, namely frozen, chilled, and ambient. It also offers value-added cold chain services, such as blast freezing, meat processing, packaging, and dry warehousing for non-refrigerated items.

During the tour, she noted that FAST employs advanced controls and monitoring systems that keep perishable goods in optimal condition, which are needed for proper transportation and storage conditions across the supply chain. 

She emphasized the importance of these technologies in preserving and maintaining the potency and safety of pharmaceutical products for customers. “FAST ColdChain Hub Cavite has sophisticated refrigeration systems and precise monitoring controls which ensure that perishable goods are in good condition,” she shared.

“The workflow is efficient even with a small team. The process is well-organized,” she also observed.
