FAST Logistics Group, the Philippines’ leading provider of integrated end-to-end logistics solutions, highlighted how artificial intelligence (AI) and automation empower employees to focus on higher-value work while improving transport and warehouse operations.

FAST Chief Information Officer Leo Sacamos Jr. shared the company’s experience in leveraging technology during a panel discussion at the 21st PIIE National Congress, organized by the Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers (PIIE) on Thursday, October 8, at Makati Diamond Residences.

With the theme, “Adoption and Scaling Digital Transformation Across the Enterprise to Unlock Operational Excellence,” the event brought together representatives from industry, academe, government, and the industrial engineering profession to exchange insights on digital transformation, AI, operational excellence, and the future of work in the Philippines.

The speakers and participants also explored how organizations can harness AI to build smarter, more resilient businesses and strengthen the Philippines’ competitiveness as a hub for intelligent, sustainable, and inclusive growth.

Harnessing AI for Supply Chain Excellence and Resiliency

During the panel discussion, Leo shared how FAST applies AI and digital tools to address operational challenges, improve efficiency, and create practical value across the supply chain.

He emphasized that adopting AI should not be about replacing people, but about equipping them with the tools and skills to perform higher-value tasks.

“AI creates the greatest value when it enables our people to move beyond repetitive, manual tasks and focus on higher-value work — where critical thinking, strategic judgment, and human decision-making make the greatest difference,” Leo said.

For FAST, technology serves as an enabler of more efficient, accurate, and transparent logistics operations. Through digital tools and data-driven systems, the company strengthens planning, visibility, fleet management, and operational decision-making, allowing its teams to respond more effectively to changing customer needs and market conditions.

One example is AI-powered truckload planning to maximize truck utilization per trip. AI also helps accelerate reporting and automate operational processes, enabling teams to respond more efficiently to customer requirements.

To further strengthen its multi-modal transportation operations, FAST migrated from its proprietary Transport Management System (TMS) to FarEye’s AI-powered delivery platform. FAST also uses a Honeywell-powered Warehouse Management System (WMS) to automate workflows in its warehouse processes — from inbound receiving to outbound fulfillment.

The organization has likewise invested in intelligent fleet technologies, including AI-powered dashcams, which monitor driver behavior in real time and support safer driving practices.

FAST Logistics Group: Empowering Logistics Professionals in the Age of AI for Greater Efficiency and Resiliency

Beyond technology adoption, Leo emphasized the importance of preparing employees to work effectively alongside AI.

He noted that FAST teams have generally been receptive to using AI in their daily operations. However, he stressed that the successful adoption and scaling of these tools depend on employees’ ability to apply critical thinking, communicate effectively, and collaborate.

“AI can automate repetitive tasks and provide valuable insights, but human judgment remains essential in interpreting information, making decisions, and coordinating responses to real-world operational challenges,” Leo said.

“Ultimately, the goal is to use AI to enhance human capabilities, not replace them,” he said. “By allowing technology to handle routine work, logistics professionals can devote more time to strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decisions that create greater value for customers.”

The panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Felix Concepcion Veroya and also featured Benby Enterprises Chief Information Officer Bryan Leo Asis.

FAST continues to explore and implement digital solutions that support more efficient transportation, smarter warehousing, safer fleet operations, and responsive customer service. Through these initiatives, the company aims to deliver practical value to customers while enabling its people to adapt and thrive in an increasingly digital industry.
